Project assistant

The Project Assistant position aims to ensure coordination and effective delivery of the milestones and activities set out in the program log frame on time and to budget and ensure donor reporting requirements a met in a timely manner.



High education degree or equivalent is essential;
Post graduate qualification in an appropriate field is desirable;
Law degree and international law, international human rights knowledge is desirable;
Project management experience in the field of human rights;
Experience of working in a non-governmental organisation (NGO);
Experience of working with international human rights institutions and using international standards and norms;
Experience of partnership work, networking, addvocacy and lobbying;
Experience of drafting and producing reports and publications;
Exprience of event organisation;
Experience of managing budgets;
Experience of fundraising for international projects is desirable;
Experience of evaluation methodologies is desirable.
Excellent organisation and time management skills;
Computer literacy including numerical skills applied on Excel, and preparing material for electronic publication
Fluent written and spoken in Russian and English;
Working knowledge of Kazakh is desirable.
Excellent inter-personal skills, patience, tact and imagination;
High level of initiative, self motivation, demonstrable ability to take responsibility, team player;
Drive, enthusiasm and commitment to PRI's mandate and values;
Willingness to do own administrative tasks;
Good understanding of gender and cultural issues;
Loyality, willingness to assist;
Ability to find non-standard solutions.


Main responsibilities:

To manage and coordinate the project on a day to day basis, operationally and administratively;
To liaise to PRI's Regional Directors and local partners to plan and deliver the milestones and targets;
To monitor progress against milestones and targets;
Analysis of international standards and criminal laws of countries of the Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan);
To work with mass media, prepare analytical materials, interviews for mass media
To liaise with the Regional Director to identify opportunities for funding activities and assist with developing and drafting proposals;
To liaise wuth consultants contracted to deliver specific outputs to ensure they are produced to a satisfactory standard and within the agreed timescale;
To ensure correct coding of expenditure and monitor spending against the budget regularly, liaising with others to minimise variance and to ensure coding is correctly allocated between programme budgets;
To monitor a wide range of information sources for developments and discussions relevant for implementation of the project, to share information and ensure shared learning between the staff team at head office, regional offices and local partners;
To prepare regular news items for inclusion in the PRI e-newsletter and websites, and prepare reports internally to the PRI Board;
To prepare progress and financial reports in a timely manner;
To cooperate with government bodies, NGO, MM, national and international experts;
As a member of the PRI staff team, contribute to internal organisational planning.
